National Peace Council Holds Elections - 2008.09.09
The first meeting of the National Peace Council executive committee was held on Sunday September 7, 2008 and electing the members of its leadership board.
Narges Mohammadi was elected as the president of the council’s executive committee.
According to the National Peace Council’s public relations office, the following persons were elected to the executive comittee:
1 – Narges Mohammadi, President
2 – Isa Saharkhiz, Vice President
3 – Abdolfattah Soltani, Spokesperson
4 – Hossein Shah Hosseini, Treasurer
The council’s executive committee is comprised of 15 full members and 5 alternate members all of whom were elected earlier this summer by the council’s general members.
The National Peace Council is comprised of 83 individuals, political and social activists representing various religious and ethnic groups. In the words of Isa Saharkhiz, “The social layer of this council would be active in a broad area with the presence of activists such as journalists, teachers, women’s rights activists, university students, etc.”
According to Saharkhiz, “Anyone who is concerned with peace and wants to prevent the nation from descending into war can become a member of the council.”
